New
listing! Take your pick of very hard to
find Frankoma Pottery collector Christmas
plates in mint condition, designed by
Joniece Frank, daughter of John Frank
(founder of Frankoma Pottery). 1
King of Kings from 1970. 2 O Come
Let Us Adore Him from 1981. 3 The
Wise Men Bring Gifts from 1983. Each plate
has the impressed Frankoma mark on the
back along with Jonice Frank's signature
and the J.F. copyright for the year the
plate was issued. Frankoma Pottery was
founded by John Frank, born in Chicago
on January 31, 1905. A university art
teacher, he accepted a position at the
University of Oklahoma's newly created
Ceramic Art Department where he taught
courses in ceramics from 1927 to 1936.
Frank met Grace Lee Bowman on January
30, 1928, and they married the following
September on the bride's twenty-third
birthday. While Frank was still teaching,
the couple purchased a small building
in Norman, Oklahoma to house their new
business, Frank Potteries, which later
became Frankoma Potteries. John Frank
passed away in 1973, and his youngest
daughter Joniece took over operations.
A fire hit the plant in September, 1983,
but the Frankoma molds survived because
of John Frank's foresight in arranging
for storage of the molds in a fireproof
room. The plant was quickly rebuilt and
production restarted by July, 1984, and
Frankoma continued production until December
31, 2004.
These
Frankoma Joniece Frank designed Christmas
plates measure approximately 8.0"
in diameter, have holes for a wall hanger
on the rear, and are in excellent condition,
coming to you direct from a Portland,
Oregon estate collection of vintage Frankoma
pottery exclusive to Collectics.
