Pretty hand painted under glaze set of 5 Stetson china plates in an exotic nature motif of green leaves and red berries set against a white base and straight gray lines that really make for an interesting design. The hand painting is very well done and evokes a cheery, tropical feel. In 1946 Joseph W. Stetson, a designer of dinnerware, moved from Chicago to take over the Illinois China Company that had been in operation in Lincoln, Illinois since 1919. By 1955, Stetson claimed to be the largest manufacturer of individual hand-painted ceramic dinnerware in the United States. The plates are a nice size at 10.5" in diameter, and it's marked on the back with the manufacturer's mark of the Stetson China Co. of Lincoln, IL as well as "Copyright 1955" and "Handpainted Under-Glaze". These decorative plates are in very good condition condition and are great to both display and use every day- direct to you from an Augusta, GA estate collection consigned exclusively to Collectics and offered at a real bargain price.
