It retains the original tag indicating that the hand sewing is by Mrs. Marie Jeanne Poirier who notes on the tag that "I come from Cheticamp, the home of Hooked Rugs." The Cheticamp hooked rug tradition and the artists in wool have distinguished themselves by the perfection of his/her designs and craftsmanship. The soft pastel colours, which are still hand dyed in the Cheticamp tradition, account for their popularity today. An accomplished artisan will take nine hours of concentrated work to complete a square foot block of his/her design. The work measures approximately 15.0" x 3.0" not including the top hanger, and it's in excellent condition right off the door of a Savannah, GA townhome built in the 19th century.
