This set of 4 combines 4 of the most fun, whimsical cards advertising clothing and accessories you will ever see, the top of the line in vintage advertising trade cards. 1. The famous Don't Look On The Other Side card has super blue lithography and promotes the Fall 1881 grand opening of Millinery Goods Parisian in Newark, NJ (4.5" x 3.0"). 2. Check out the children gracing the front of this card sculpting a head, and a price list on the back for the Spurgeon & Bailey clothing store on the rear. (4.25" x 3.0"). 3. The celebrated Chinese acrobats adorn the front of this card promoting Dunlap & Co. Celebrated Hats at the J.A. Jackson & Co. of Boston on the back. ( 4.5" x 3.0") 4. Children playing with a decorated egg and painting it- note the boy holding the art pallette- is a card for the W. R. Whittelsey Co. Clothiers. (4.0" x 2.75"). Louis Prang, a lithographer and printer, develops the idea of mass-producing small "trade cards" that could be adapted to the needs of individual advertisers at low cost in the 1870's. Illustrated trade cards reach the height of their popularity in the 1880s, not only with advertisers but also with the American public which becomes very interested in collecting them. All cards are in very good condition with near mint color lithographed images and only de minimus age wear on the rear.
