hard to find set of advertising trade cards
c 1880s with super color lithography and
a theme. This set of 4 combines 4 cards
that advertise purveyors of shoes and boots.
1. Ludlow's Fine Shoes offer "Solid
Comfort" and beautiful shimmering gold
lithography, compliments of J. S. Perry
& Co. of Lawrence, Kansas, the "best
in the market." (4.25" x 2.75").
2. Check out Reynolds Brothers Fine Shoes
advertising card with a young girl smelling
the flowers, of Utica, NY and noting on
the back their "Celebrated Fine Shoes".
(4.75" x 3.0"). 3. Edwin C. Burt
Fine Shoes is Presented By C. T. Fay of
Holyoke, Mass. and notes that genuine goods
of Edwin C. Burt "have his NAME stamped
in full on LINING and SOLE of each shoe,
and are warranted". ( 4.5" x 3.0")
4. Geo. Gould & Co. Dealers in Fine
Boots and Shoes resided at 16 State Street
in Rochester, NY (3.75" x 2.25").
Louis Prang, a lithographer and printer,
develops the idea of mass-producing small
"trade cards" that could be adapted to the
needs of individual advertisers at low cost
in the 1870's. Illustrated trade cards reach
the height of their popularity in the 1880s,
not only with advertisers but also with
the American public which becomes very interested
in collecting them. All cards are in very
good condition with near mint color lithographed
images and only de minimus age wear on the
rear. These early clothing dealer advertising
cards easily go for $14 or more each, so
enjoy the bargain pricing only at Collectics,
part of a major estate collection and consignment
of the finest advertising memorabilia and
collectibles. Great for a frame! |
