Fun
promotional marketing pen from the innovative and ground breaking
airline Virgin Atlantic and its entrepreneur Richard Branson. Long
known for the best promotions in the airline industry, this whimsical
chrome pen has the look of Art Deco in its curved surfaces forming
the body of the airplane, and the red airplane tail fin on the back
is the coup de grace! It's a very fun piece and marked Virgin Atlantic
impressed in the metal, and it's in excellent condition measuring
approximately 5.75" long- direct from a Park Avenue penthouse
liquidation in New York City. |

Very
hard to find set of advertising trade cards c 1880s with super color
lithography and a theme. This set of 4 promotes baking powder and
vinegar brands. 1. Whimsical Alden Vinegar advertising card beautifully
lithographed and featuring a jolly, heavyset delivery man bringing
the vinegar with the caption "Oh I Fetch Him All Right- Sure."
(4.25" x 2.5"). 2. Very large advertising card Use The
Alden Fruit Vinegar advertising card with super lithograph of young
girl holding a basket of fruit gracing the card. (6.0" x 3.75").
3. Use Crystal Baking Powder features a shimmering red lithographed
forest scene with the moon in the background. ( 4.0" x 2.75")
4. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda features two lithographed birds
- canaries - on the front and some interesting text promoting this
new series of bird lithos on their advertising trade cards along
with the many reasons why someone should use packaged Arm &
Hammer baking soda. Arm & Hammer logo is on the front of the
card in lower right corner. (2.75" x 1.75"). Louis Prang,
a lithographer and printer, develops the idea of mass-producing
small "trade cards" that could be adapted to the needs of individual
advertisers at low cost in the 1870's. Illustrated trade cards reach
the height of their popularity in the 1880s, not only with advertisers
but also with the American public which becomes very interested
in collecting them. All cards are in very good condition with near
mint color lithographed images and only de minimus age wear on the
rear. All 4 of these cards except the Arrm & Hammer card have
the name of the lithographer printed in the lower right corner.

For
the Karen in your life of the vintage advertising collector, here's
a Hershey's syrup coffee mug with "Karen" custom printed
on the front. Across the bottom of the cup is a Hershey's Syrup
advertising slogan "Hershey's Syrup makes good things even
better." Food and beverage makers seldom sell or give out brand
advertising memorabilia or souvenirs any more, and this would make
a fun gift. This nice vintage coffee cup is a nice size at approximately
3.25" high and 3.0" in diameter not including the handle.

Unusually
shaped vintage advertising trade cards are very rare, and here are
2 mint condition cards newly listed and paired with 2 more hard
to find examples. 1. Compliments of Fred Cutler & Miller in
Ionia, Michigan featured beautifully done and shimmering lithography,
young children, and what we believe is an umbrella shape. (3.75"
x 3.0"). 2. Compliments of M. Herron Jeweler at 18 W. Washington
St. in Indianapolis, Indiana features the lithographed look of an
artist's paint palette complete with finger hole. (4.0" x 3.0").
3. Happy New Year To You is an example of early lithographed holiday
greeting card that preceeded the days of Hallmark being on every
store shelf. ( 5.0" x 2.50") 4. Small calling card of
Helen Dacre, "The Seaside Belle" with sand pail hanging
on her hat- we can only wonder what this was all about back in the
late 19th century when it was likely printed. (2.5" x 1.25").
Illustrated trade cards reach the height of their popularity in
the 1880s, not only with advertisers but also with the American
public which becomes very interested in collecting them. All cards
are in very good condition with near mint color lithographed images
and only de minimus age wear on the rear and minor litho loss on
the New Years card, part of a major estate collection and consignment

Normally
the vintage John F. Kennedy memorabilia are listed in either that
category or in Books & Records, but we wanted to expose advertising
collectors to some of the classic ads to be found in select Time
and Newsweek magazines. As such, check out this vintage Newsweek
magazine that tracks the early days of the Kennedy administration
and those closest to JFK in Congress and his administration. It's
a December 11, 1962 vintage Newsweek magazine with feature National
Affairs article Kennedy's Insiders Now. There is also an article
on the Friendship 7 space ship and a great feature article on Sears
Roebuck as the Christmas season approaches, forecasting $1 billion
in sales and exploring how Sears got to be the biggest retailer
and "what's behind its continuing spectacular growth. There's
also great vintage advertising in this edition from Ford Thunderbird,
Lincoln Continental, Western Electric, TWA Airlines, Tarreyton cigarettes,
Honeywell computers, Chivas Regal, Seagrams Gin, Goodyear, Liberty
Mutual, and more. The magazine is in very good condition, has an
original address label, and is great as a gift to any Kennedy collector,
advertising collector, or scholar of the turbulent years of the
1960s, part of a major JFK estate collection of rare memorabilia
documenting Kennedy's life and times. |
