Pretty vintage cotton doilie (or doily) is nicely crafted and a great size to use in a variety of ways at approximatley 7.0" in diameter. A doily (or doilie) is a small ornamental mat made of cotton or linen placed underneath a dish, bowl, or vase. Openwork allows the table surface to show through, and they also have the utilitarian role of protecting fine wood furniture from the scratches caused by ceramics and the like. We like the simple yet elegant weave, and it's in excellent condition right off the shelf of a snowy Vermont farmhouse where it formed the base for a lovely Tiffany favrile glass vase.
