Very
nicely done Laforet painting of two girls standing with parasols
by the lake, spring flowers and trees in bloom all around them.
The colors are very vibrant, and the work reflects a variety of
painting styles from the smooth background of the water and sky
to the heavily textured renderings of the leaves in the trees. This
cheery acrylic on canvas painting measures approximately 32.0" high
and 27.75" wide in its gilt wood frame, and it's signed by the artist
in the lower right corner Laforet. Consigned from a Newport, Rhode
Island estate, the work is in excellent condition.

Very
fine print from the Le Douanier Rousseau at the Grand Palais in
Paris, from September 1984- January, 1985. Rousseau was the most
whimsical of the French painters during the late 19th and early
20th century, following on the heels of the French Impressionists.
This is a French print of the exhibition, with opening hours in
French below the dates, and it has been professionally mounted on
board and framed in a simple gold metal frame. It measures approximately
23.5" high and 16.0" wide, and it's in excellent condition.

nice set of 3 hand painted Zimmerman Amish slate tiles has some
of the richest colors and finest attention to detail we've seen
in an Amish artist's work for some time. Each individually signed
"Zimmerman", this super set of 3 is ready to hang on a
wall and has a quality that you'll be proud to show in any room
of your house. This set of 3 features a barn and wildmill scene,
a water pump standing amid a snowy night, and a piece of farm equipment
resting in the field. Each of these hand painted tiles measures
approximately 6.0" x 5.0" and is in excellent condition,
part of a consignment right out of the Pennsylvania Amish country.

An
amazing wood caring from Bali, a long and sinuous female reminiscent
of Art Deco styling and with well above average detail in the carving.
This figural sculpture stands approximately 14.75" high and is in
excellent condition. Believed to be made of teak wood, the intricacy
of the carving exposed us to the first time to the artisans of Bali,
and we'll be on the lookout for more whenever possible. The work
is fully marked on the bottom with the artist's name, Bali, and
other markings. Brought to you from a Sands Point, Long Island waterfront
estate at a real bargain price! Cross listed on Crafts 1.

Very
fine set of 2 vintage signed Beshlie English color prints c 1978
can be yours and ready for a mount and frame. First, Jack-in-the-Green
is a typically whimsical Beshlie depiction of Jack-in-the-Green,
often attended by "lucky" chimney sweeps, jesters, and
buffoons. He is all dressed up in his costume- "a barrel"
of greenery made of oak and thorn plaited onto circular bands of
ivy- a symbol of summer. He was sometimes called "The Green
Man". The second print is The Mountebank, a type of street
doctor who set up business on the roadside. The more ununscrupulous
ones sold ineffective medicines, and eventually the term became
associated with everything fake. The detail and colors are typically
high quality as Beshlie has a very strong history and reputation
as a top illustrator. The signed prints themselves measure approximately
9.75" x 7.25" and they are mounted on the original etched
14" x 11" backing paper which has at the bottom c Gallery
Five 1978, the print series number, the name of the print, and "Printed
in England." It also comes with a cardboard backing available
for use with the name, description, and artist of the print. /85

Outstanding
paper cut out mounted on silk of butterflies and flowers framed
in an oval, framed in a simple frame 14.5" x 11.5" and
in excellent condition. Right off the wall of a Vermont country
estate, this elaborate cutout will make you wonder how the artist
was able to do the narrow bands which form the flower petals or
the textural stripes all done in cutout that form the butterfly's
body. It's a nice soothing rose color mounted on cream colored silk,
a neutral look that easily blends into many different types of home
decor. |

your choice of 2 signed and numbered 8" x 10" photographs
from South Carolina coastal photographer William Frederick or snap
up both- both photos were printed in a limited edition of 25 photographs
and signed by the artist. The first photograph features a whimsical
depiction of a turtle and dolphin crafted in the sand and relaxing
on the beach, while the second photograph is a sedate shot of a
beachside gazebo in the sand dunes framed by a gloriously colored
sky above. Each 8" x 10" photograph is signed on the back
"William Frederick", and the sand animals are numbered
06/25 while the sunrise scene is numbered 11/25. Both photographs
are in excellent condition and ready to frame- makes a great decorative

Ornate
metal frame is magnificent in itself, but it contains curved glass
and an incredibly detailed, emotive image of a young girl within
to make this a very special find. We love the frame, highly detailed
and clearly the work of very skilled craftsmen, and it measures
approximately 21.0" high including the crown and 15.0"
wide. The image is well embedded inside the frame, and we do not
wish to dislodge it to examine the work very closely but it appears
to be a lithograph. The frame and curved glass would highlight any
photograph or print you choose to insert, but we and those we consulted
believe the image of the young girl has a strong value to complement
the obvious value of the frame. All period and old, it was lifted
off the wall of a Greenwich Village townhouse mansion in New York
City; cross listed on BIgger Ticket 2. |
